Labeling Requirements

In Australia and New Zealand, food labeling legislation is governed by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) through the Food Standards Code (FSC). The labeling requirements aim to ensure that consumers receive accurate information about the food they purchase, enabling them to make informed decisions while safeguarding public health and safety. Below are the key requirements:

- Mandatory Information on Labels
- Date marking - Use-by-Date or Best-before Date
- Nutritional Information Panel
- Country of Origin Labelling - indicates where the food was grown, processed, or manufactured
- Net weight or Volume
- Lot Identification
- Storage Instruction
- Name and address of supplier
- Legibility and Clarity
- Allergen Labelling
- Health and Nutritional Claims

Benefits

Not all industries are subject to such heavy regulation as the food industry is, and with good reason. The consequences for consumers (and in turn business) for a disregard of the labelling regulations is significant.

For consumers, the consequences can be deadly.

For businesses, the resultant penalties imposed for a breach of the regulations, and the damage to the brand can be almost as disastrous.

On successful completion of this course, participants will obtain the knowledge to effectively understand the legislative requirements for the labelling of packaged and unpackaged food products and how to meet these regulations.

This labelling training is a one day practical hands-on workshop without any exams or assignments.
